personal interests the arts graphic art buildings

Using graphic art in a building can have several objectives...
It can create a sense of place, support a team or group, or relay important information.
In 1991, I was hired to provide simple and bold wall graphics for the newly painted Waldport High School Gym.

I was the varsity volleyball coach at this time, and I was happy to have the chance to enhance the "playing field" for my athletes.
The entire gym got a green stripe around the perimeter with informative signage breaks to designate seating arrangements.
Long fabric banners were designed and hung around the gym.
Large letter cut-outs and images of shamrocks, volleyballs, and a volleyball player were designed and built by the architect.
These cut-out graphics were used for easy maintenance and removal instead of the customary painting on the wall.
When the new high school was built, some of these graphics made their way to the new gym.
